Brotherhood of St. Andrew – Malvern Retreat

Members of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and men of Christ Church attended the Epiphany Weekend Retreat at St. Joseph’s in the Hills Retreat House in Malvern, Pennsylvania on January 7-9, 2011. This is the fifth year in a row that men from Christ Church have participated in this retreat weekend. The retreat affords those attending to participate in Mass together, to hear reflections by the retreat conductor regarding the theme of the weekend, to use quite time to consider their own walk with God and to come together as men to share individual stories and life experiences. Many in attendance indicated that this was a particularly good weekend for them as they had the opportunity to unpack their own lives away from the chaos of today’s world.

During the weekend the men enjoyed the sharing time and the opportunity to get together socially and to learn a little more about each other. The snow on both Friday and Saturday was a little challenging but, it made for a picture setting that allowed for the seeing of God’s world with all its beauty and splendor.

This year five men were recognized with certificates from the Retreat House for being in attendance for five years. Those receiving their five year certificates were: Bob Scott, T.J. Scott, Dave Wishnik, John Deal and Jim Bathurst. Also attending the retreat was: Matt Baldwin, Conner Baldwin, Don Dunnington, John Burrows, Jeff Bathurst and Richard Scott.

This annual retreat opportunity is opened to all men of Christ Church and their friends. If you are interested in attending the retreat next year and want to know more about the retreat you can speak to any of the men who participated this year or contact Sean Garvin, retreat coordinator.

The Feast of St. Andrew

and Installation of Brotherhood Officers

November 30th gave the Brotherhood of St. Andrew

the opportunity to come together to celebrate and

share with the Christ Church community all that the

Brotherhood stands for. The men of the Church are

proud of its accomplishments since the group

was reorganized.

The Brotherhood has grown in its purpose of Study,

Prayer and Service. Men of Christ Church are encouraged to

join us in our meetings as we seek to become more

confidant in our faith and more recognized in our efforts to

follow the example of our patron, St. Andrew.

We thank T.J. Scott and David Wishnick for their leadership as

Director and Vice Director over the last two years. Going into

the new year we hope to add to our membership and our mission

of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ to all we come

into contact with.

Our meetings are held on the third Thursday of

each month at 7:00 PM in the Goodfellow Lounge.

Please join us!

Habitat for Humanity Project

Saturday, October 9, was a perfect fall day for a team from the Christ Church Brotherhood of St. Andrew to work with Habitat for Humanity on its project in Clayton to build a neighborhood of affordable single-family homes.  Work was scheduled from 8am till noon and our Brotherhood workers were joined by a group of about 20 Rowan University and high school students and their teachers as well as future & current Habitat homeowners.  Work that day included roofing, window installation and property maintenance.  Brother Jonathan Jones took over lawn cutting, while Paul Goldy, Ed Ferrell, and David Wishnick framed a door opening and installed a sliding glass door.   Brother Joe Chew was there, as always, to photograph all things Brotherhood.  Our day was wrapped-up with a hot dog lunch served by two grateful future homeowners.
