The Brotherhood Of Saint Andrew -- Bringing Men and Youth to Christ's Kingdom A message from TJ Scott, Director
As the summer approaches, I want to give everyone an update on some of the things we are working on and give you a flavor for the studying and praying we have been doing at our monthly meetings. We have been doing our three disciplines quite well. We even added special prayers and intercessions to our regular meetings.
Before I became the Chapter Director, I had been proud of how we had come together as Brothers in Christ and gotten comfortable discussing just about anything with each other, and how we had stepped up to help many people in need of some handy men. But I had also become aware of the fact that our activities were not always aligned to the Brotherhood's mission - bringing men and youth to Christ's kingdom.
At our May meeting, we took steps to ensure our activities aligned to the greater mission that as Christians we are all obligated, and as Brothers we are supposed to be focused. It was time for us to study evangelism and find ways to get comfortable with it. Sean Garvin our previous Director got comfortable with it and became Assistant Diocesan Director. Even as I write this article he is in Point Pleasant starting a new Brotherhood Chapter, and leading other men on the walk into Christ's kingdom.
I am pleased that the list of projects we are taking on will give us opportunities to invite other men and youth in. And we intend to follow-thru, and actually INVITE OTHER MEN into His Kingdom with these projects:
1. Church Picnic -- Put June 7th on your calendar for the Christ Church Summer Picnic. The picnic will begin right after church. As in the past, the Brotherhood will take the lead in organizing and running this event. There is a detachable section at the bottom of this update for anyone interested in bringing a side dish or dessert. Please fill out the section and drop it in the Sunday collection plate.
2. Building Project -- Construction on the National Life Center's addition for its new ultrasound machine has been delayed, but is expected to start in June. Members of the Brotherhood will assist with some of the skilled and unskilled portions of this very important project. We'll give you updates on this project at upcoming adult forms.
3. Summer Family Fun -- We will be organizing "Meetings with Movies" in July and August. Immediately following our regular Brotherhood meetings on the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. we will be showing a movie outside. The movies will start at 8. We'll be watching Amazing Grace and The Mission. All are welcome to join us for the movie and refreshments.
4. St Paul's Gym -- In September, we plan on taking donated gym equipment to St. Paul's Auditorium in Camden. We'll also help clean the place up. If you have any exercise equipment you can donate please let one of the Brotherhood members know. More details on the exact date, and on when we will be collecting equipment, will follow.
5. NA Outreach -- In October we will be taking pizza and snacks to the Narcotics Anonymous meetings held within our parish house. We started this outreach last year and it was well received.
As this year comes to a close, the Brotherhood will continue with our tradition of assisting with the Nativity set up prior to the start of Advent. This is not an exclusive Brotherhood activity, so all are welcome to help.
There is also a preliminary plan being made to send a Brotherhood member down to Ometepe Island to investigate and assist with Tom Fritz's missionary work. We are planning a family oriented retreat. And Fred Dougherty is organizing a Prison Ministry. As plans materialize for these projects we will update you thru this newsletter and on our website 1856brothers.org .
Bringing men and youth into Christ's kingdom is our mission. Bringing others into Christ's Church should be your mission to. The upcoming picnic is a perfect opportunity for all of us to invite others to come to mass and join us.
